Okay this tutorial should help anyone making a space based map. This makes really cool looking force fields using particle emitters. You can change the colors if you like to give it a nice effect.
First off, to save a bit of work, just download this forcefieldstart.rfl.
Open that up, you should have this if you select the particle emitters.
All I did was put in the particle emitters, and decrease their size. And I also gave us a nice black background to work with.
Now let’s get started on the particle emitters. Select all the particle emitters, and then press (Ctrl+P). You should have this:
Now look down next to “OK” and you see “Random Direction: 30.00 Degrees” set that to 0.00 degrees. Now, set the bounciness to 15 (up a little above random direction. Then make sure you check the box next to “Collide With World”. (you must do this or the force field wont work at all). Next set the “Decay” to 15. and the “Acceleration” to 2. Set the spawn delay to 0. they may look out-of-whack now, because the emitters aren’t lined up, but if you line them up like this:
Then they look a lot better. You can mess around with some options and placements.
NOTE: if you would like to have them in mid air, not in a room, then just have solid face brushes with a transparent texture around where you want the force-field contained to. Here’s the end product: forcefieldend.rfl
Have fun with this simple but nice little trick.
