Sound Compression for RED. How to get small .WAV files in Red Faction and have a high quality sound!

Program used : dBpowerAMP Music Converter

Download that program, and set it up. When you have it installed, run it. Duh.

You should have a box come up telling you to browse for and specify which files you would like to convert which looks like this :

Click on the song(s) you would like to convert, (use CTRL+LeftClick to choose multiple files) in my case, I will convert "01 you Held The World In Your Arms Tonight". This is a 192KBit song and comes in at a medium sized 4.62MB.

Click Open.

Next, you should have a screen which looks like this :

If you are not on something like this, with the codec options near the top, then click the drop down box at the top, and select Wave.

As you can see, I have the setting "Compressed" Selected. This is what you want.

The next step is to change the format/codec of the file. To do this, we click "Change Format".

The settings which I find work best are these :

You can edit the settings, but it's ideal you stick to the ones that I chose as these give a pretty nice size. When you are done, click OK.

Next you must choose a folder to save the converted file to... I am going to choose "Same Folder as Original". This means that the .WAV will appear in my "My Music" folder. You can specify your own folder if you like wink.gif. When you have done this, ignore the bottom few settings, and click "Convert > >". Watch the progress bar :)

Dum de dum...

And the results ARE IN!!

As you can see, the filesize is roughly 1/2'ed, and there is only a little quality loss which shouldn't be noticed when you're running around in an RF map getting your hoser butt fragged off.
